Joel’s passion for helping people reach their fitness potential began during his time at Texas Tech University where he began working at a local gym. While he worked various positions within the gym, Joel always found himself motivated by one thing: making a personal impact on people’s lives and seeing that it doesn’t always have to be difficult to make necessary changes.

After moving to Olympia, WA in 2004, Joel began teaching group fitness classes and helped establish some of the largest group exercise class participation numbers throughout the United States. Simultaneously, Joel managed a local gym, then spent four years working for the Washington State Department of Health and assisted in establishing a corporate wellness program while there. Joel’s relationship with Beachbody kindled in 2005 when he joined the elite Trainer team for the collaborative project, LES MILL PUMP, the home weight training program.

In 2012, Joel relocated to Southern California as the new Group Exercise Director for the iconic Gold’s Gym SoCal, a franchise of over a dozen Gold’s Gyms across Southern California’s landscape. Touted as one of the most prestigious and successful franchises in the world, Joel transformed the Southern California’s group fitness market with new programming, the best instructors in the area and applied analytics and tracking that had never before been used in the industry.

When presented with the amazing opportunity to come to Beachbody as an exclusive Super Trainer in 2016, Joel didn’t hesitate! He collaborated with teammate Jericho McMatthews and in 2017 launched a new, record-breaking Beachbody program: CORE DE FORCE. A mixed martial-arts style home training program, CORE DE FORCE combines MMA combinations with high-intensity cardio and body-weight resistance training. Since launch, CORE DE FORCE has empowered thousands of people across the globe with increased confidence, self-empowerment, while helping them lose weight, tone their muscles and see their abs…some for the first time ever!

After CORE DE FORCE, Joel began working on his first solo project, which was launched in 2018, LIIFT4. This 8-week, cutting edge fitness program was the first of its kind in that it showed people how they could get unbelievable results in only four days a week. Over two years later and LIIFT4 is still one of the top streamed programs on Beachbody on Demand, surpassing 25 million views in January 2020.

Riding on the success of LIIFT4, Joel began working on another fitness program that embodied one of his own passions: boxing. Taking the best elements of shadow boxing, conditioning and strength training, Joel created 10 ROUNDS, a 6-week total body sculpting, calorie scorching that was an instant success upon launch, hitting over 5 million streams in just a couple months.

When he’s not working out or on a new project, Joel enjoys spending time with any adrenaline sport, golfing, and being a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
